1 out of 535: Congressman Honda Becomes Only Member of Congress to Consistently Win Award in Technology, Social Media and Constituent Service
Washington, DC – Congressman Honda becomes the only—one out of 535—Member of Congress to win a Gold Mouse Award by the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF), every time it was given since it was created in 2002. “I am truly honored by this award, and for the recognition of 12 years of digital excellence serving the people of the 17th District of California,” said Congressman Honda. “Representing Silicon Valley, my constituents expect me to embrace new technologies for mobile and on-demand service from their phones, tablets, and notebooks. My goal is to make democracy more transparent and accessible."
In the CMF report, the authors noted, “[Congressman Honda’s] social media efforts are a model for accountability, transparency, and constituent service in Congress. He even offers an explanation to his approach to constituents, which also serves as a valuable guide to other legislators.” The report noted that he was the only Member of Congress to integrate alternative social media platforms, such as Eventbrite.com, Change.org, and the first-ever Congressional iBook. The report continues to laud his website for updated and detailed legislative content and an innovative online-tracking system for tour and flag requests. “By demonstrating exceptional accountability and transparency in online communications, Congressman Honda not only provides benefits to his constituents but to the entire Congress,” said Bradford Fitch, CMF President and CEO.
This is Congressman Honda's seventh Gold Mouse Award and his first for social media. He is one of only four Members of the 113th Congress to receive an award for both his website and social media efforts.
