Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Honda, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), issued the following statement congratulating Louisiana Governor-elect Bobby Jindal following his recent victory:
“On behalf of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), I extend my warm congratulations to Governor-elect Bobby Jindal. His success in the political sphere is truly an inspiring American story. Son of Indian immigrants, Jindal pursued the American dream and is the first person of Indian descent to serve as governor of a state, and the first minority governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction.
“These are great accomplishments, and Louisiana needs a strong leader. There is much work to be done in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as many communities, including immigrant and refugee communities, are still struggling in the areas of community and economic development. Particularly vital is access to culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services. On behalf of CAPAC, I look forward to his leadership in these areas.”
