DEMOCRATIC FIRST 100 HOURS AGENDA TO HAVE
SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE IMPACT ON APIA COMMUNITY

Washington, DC – Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) applaud the passage of the Democratic First 100 Hours legislation and anticipate a significant positive impact on the Asian Pacific Islander American community. The following CAPAC members said:

Rep. Honda (CA-15): "I commend Speaker Pelosi and my Congressional colleagues for the passage of the First 100 Hours legislation. I am proud to be a part of this historic effort," said Rep. Michael Honda (CA-15), Chair of CAPAC. "Making educational loans more affordable, increasing the minimum wage for hardworking American families, and enabling Medicare to negotiate lower prices for our seniors are steps in the right direction not only for the Asian Pacific American community, but for all Americans. These initiatives and other steps that enable families to thrive are long overdue," he said, concluding, "I urge my Senate colleagues to pass these measures, and the President to sign them into law in a timely manner."

Rep. Green (TX-09): "The House took an important first step by passing H.R. 2, the Fair Minimum Wage Act," said Rep. Al Green (TX-09). "I commend Chairman Miller and our Democratic Leadership for helping millions of hard working Americans earn a decent day’s wages for a decent day’s work. By increasing the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 over two years, we are closer to ensuring that a full-time job is a bridge out of poverty. As we look to the future, I hope to continue working with my colleagues in the House to ensure that Americans who work full-time do not live in poverty."

Rep. Bordallo (GU): "H.R. 4, the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act is an important bill for the Asian Pacific Islander American community. This legislation will allow the Secretary of Health and Human Services to capitalize on the leverage and the bargaining power of millions of Medicare beneficiaries to negotiate prescription drug price discounts," said Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (GU), Chair of CAPAC’s Health Task Force. "The Asian American Pacific Islander community has always valued the wisdom and contributions of our seniors. This legislation is a step toward ensuring that the seniors in our community receive the most affordable prices for prescription drugs possible."

Rep. Wu (OR-01): "We expect our teachers to prepare students for a college education, and we expect our students to go to college, but in recent years, Congress has fallen short of its responsibility and commitment to higher education and opportunity for all," stated Rep. David Wu (OR-01), Chair of CAPAC’s Education Task Force. "Today we took the first step to reverse this dangerous course, and in a refreshing bipartisan effort, increased access to and affordability of a college degree by cutting the cost of student loans."
