| Rep Honda on Republicans and DOMA |

The House Republican leadership has become so embarrassed by their party’s stance on LGBT Americans and marriage equality that they’re now burying authority to defend the so-called Defense of Marriage Act in the House Rules package. The American people should have the opportunity to know exactly where their Representatives stand on the use of taxpayer dollars to defend this unconstitutional law; Republican leadership should give it an up-or-down vote. On this defining issue of our time, House Republicans are continuing to fight for discrimination and using the Rules package to make it seem as if all Members of the House feel that way. The House Republicans on the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group do not speak for me – I oppose the use of taxpayer funds to defend DOMA, and I know I’m on the right side of history. |
